Feeling confident traveling solo isn’t about bei Feeling confident traveling solo isn’t about being fearless. It’s about being prepared, smart, and unapologetically yourself.

From doing your homework (yes, Google the heck out of that country) to packing like a pro (bring a power bank, always), and trusting your gut on everything from quirky hotels to tricky transit, solo travel is about knowing you’ve got your own back. And for those “what if and oh crap” moments like a lost bag, the canceled flight, or the unexpected sprained ankle, I always rely on @southerncrosstravelinsurancenz. Travel insurance = my ultimate safety net. It’s saved me so many times.

Being on your own isn’t scary. It’s freeing. You get to explore at your pace, celebrate your wins (even if it’s just figuring out the local bus system on the first try - kill me), and discover a little more about yourself along the way. So pack your courage, trust your instincts, and let the adventures come. Solo travel is amazing, and a little preparation (and Southern Cross Travel Insurance too) makes it even better.

Spring’s here, the long weekend’s coming, and Spring’s here, the long weekend’s coming, and the weather is... doing whatever it wants again. Before you head off, take a few minutes to check the forecast, look up any track alerts with @nzmountainsafetycouncil on the Plan My Walk app, and pack for every condition. Spring in Aotearoa doesn’t care about your plan; it’ll throw a curveball whether you’re ready or not.

And remember: the biggest risks aren’t always cliffs or rivers — sometimes they’re in our own heads. Thinking “we’ve come this far, might as well push on” or “everyone else is doing it” can get you in real trouble. Listen to your gut, speak up, and don’t be afraid to turn back. The goal isn’t to summit — it’s to get home safe.

Now tell me, what are your plans?

Who is Young Adventuress?

Hi, I'm Liz, and I got my first taste for traveling when I was 16 years old. On my own, 12 years and 50 something countries later, my wanderlust has only grown and the list of countries I want to visit longer. After living in Spain for the past few years and returning home for a stint, I then quit my job and moved to New Zealand and I've been here ever since. Follow my misadventures as I wander, eat, and photograph my way around the world
